Stick Out Your Tongue and Say Ahhh: The Second Commandment
June 30, 2024
Prayer Before Worship
O Lord, my Creator, Redeemer, and Comforter, as I come to worship You in spirit and in truth, I humbly pray that You would open my heart to Your Word so that I may repent of my sins, believe in Jesus Christ as my only Savior, and grow in grace and holiness. Hear me for the sake of Jesus’ name. Amen.
In Today’s Worship
We continue a series of worship services on the Ten Commandments: “Laws of Love and Liberty.” How we talk about a person reveals how our heart feels about that person. God asks us not to use His name as a joke or a threat, but to show a heart that loves Him and trusts in His goodness.
THE SECOND COMMANDMENT
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love God so that we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name, but call upon it in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks. ~ Dr. Martin Luther, The Small Catechism
